Accessorizing for some people can feel daunting. Some individuals seem to have a flair for it and others just do not. Following some simple techniques - you too will be able to accessorize like a Professional Designer.

#1 - Groupings - We typically like to group items in either pairs, threes or fours. Pairing like items together provides pattern, color reinforcement and strengthens the visual appearance. So when you are showcasing your collections or purchasing items to display in your glass front cabinets or on shelves, group your items in this way. If you put too much on a shelf it can look too cluttered or be too busy.

#2 - Color - It strengthens the design if you repeat your accent color (or colors) within your accessorizing. I have seen some beautiful bookshelves with people using all the same color books or grouping the colors together (all of the whites and all of the greens together).

#3 - Greenery - We love adding a touch of greenery in our accessorizing. I particularly like using faux grasses or succulents. Using faux you don't have to worry about them receiving enough light or having to take care of them, but that bit of green always adds a freshness to the display.

#4 - Variation - It can be sort of boring if you display the same thing, over and over. This can be especially challenging if you are showcasing a large collection. So you need to incorporate different items that make sense but are not exactly the same thing.

#5 - Overdoing it or Underdoing it - This is the biggest issue; you either have too many items displayed on the shelves or not enough things to display. Remember, your accessories should look neat and fit nicely. Don't cram items (place them), don't have long empty spots with no items. Even a single plate displayed on a plate rack/stand provides color, pattern or texture. It's ok to not use everything and if you are a tad short of inventory, then keep your eyes open for elements you need to fill in with. It's a process and ok if you are still looking for the perfect bud vase or that coral piece, just add pieces as you find them in your travels!
