When designing a home for a celebrity, finished rooms may look effortless, but creating a home that truly reflects its occupants takes careful listening, collaboration, and attention to detail.

For Stephanie Nolan at Distinctive Interiors (DistinctiveInteriors), that philosophy recently came to life in Texas, where her Sarasota-based interior design firm completed the interiors for NFL legend Terry Bradshaw and his wife, Tammy, in their new “forever home.” The multi-year project wrapped in February 2026, when the home was completed. Distinctive Interiors owner and principal designer Stephanie Nolan worked with the Bradshaws on the project, partnering with Brian Shadden of Shadden Custom Homes (https://www.shaddencustomhomes.com/).

But designing a celebrity home isn't simply about creating something impressive. It is about creating something personal. Celebrity homeowners face a unique challenge: their public lives often differ greatly from their private ones.

"The difference between designing a home for a celebrity compared with a typical luxury residential client is that they have a faster-paced lifestyle with constant work travel, more spaces for guests, visiting family, and also additional security concerns due to their public persona," says Interior Designer and owner of Distinctive Interiors, Stephanie Nolan.

For an interior designer, the goal isn't to design a home that looks like it belongs to a famous athlete, entertainer, or public figure. The goal is to understand the person behind the name: their routines, memories, collections, entertaining style, and the way they want to experience home.

“Like most clients, you have to understand who they are before making any design decisions. How do they live? How do they entertain? How do they relax/recharge? Should you be planning for pets in the house, especially when it comes to durability and cleanability? Always plan for and accommodate their family and guests in your design choices. Additionally, aim for what is most physically comfortable for them.” Nolan explains. “When designing for Terry Bradshaw, we kept in mind that being a professional athlete takes an incredible physical toll. We made sure all items were comfortable, at the correct height, and provided the support that Terry needed.”

That personal approach has long been central to Distinctive Interiors' philosophy. Distinctive Interiors describes its work as full-service design, taking projects from concept and preliminary design through installation and completion, with an emphasis on creating distinctive spaces for each client (DistinctiveInteriors).

The Bradshaw Texas project wasn't simply about selecting furniture and accessories after a house was built. Distinctive Interiors partnered with Shadden Custom Homes on the building's full design, then handled furnishing and decorating. The installation marked the culmination of about three years of work (LinkedIn).

That kind of timeline illustrates what goes into a truly custom home. Decisions made early in the process, from architecture and finishes to lighting, space planning, ceiling design, and cabinetry, ultimately influence how the finished interiors come together.

One of the most rewarding aspects of residential design is incorporating what already has meaning to a homeowner. For the Bradshaw home, that included Terry's personal collection of memorabilia and artwork. Distinctive Interiors incorporated his art collection and accessories into the finished home, including particularly distinctive pieces from his professional history. As Stephanie Nolan noted in a project update, the home presented the unusual design challenge of finding places for Emmy Awards and Lombardi Trophies alongside the rest of the décor (LinkedIn). Rather than treating those objects as an afterthought, they become part of the home's story.

With a celebrity like Terry Bradshaw, it’s easy to wonder how it’s possible to incorporate personal collections, artwork, and memorabilia into the design. A home's importance lies in its personality and character.

“We made sure to provide spaces to house and showcase Terry's awards and memorabilia,” Nolan clarifies. “He didn't have his Emmys displayed in his last home, so we wanted to make sure they were shown in a prominent location because he earned them! We custom-designed the bookcase unit in his study with a higher shelf in the center unit to fit all his football memorabilia. We also confirmed the height of an Emmy and checked our shelf heights before purchasing the furniture to ensure everything would fit.”

The word 'luxury' can mean different things to different homeowners. For Distinctive Interiors, luxury residential design is about much more than expensive furnishings. It can mean custom details, exceptional craftsmanship, thoughtful proportions, quality materials, and, perhaps most importantly, a home that functions beautifully for the people who live there.

“Luxury to me means tailoring and personalizing the space for each client. We all live differently and have different needs. We think about each client and propose recommendations that not only satisfy them but pamper them. We research and source the best, most comfortable furnishings and custom-design each space so it meets every need and looks great while staying comfortable.” Nolan illustrates. “In the Bradshaws' master closet area, we provided Tammy [Bradshaw’s wife] with a great makeup vanity including professional lighting for makeup application, built-in drawers with electrical for hair tools, and a comfortable stool at the perfect height. We made sure her closet had adequate storage and display for not only her designer shoes/purses and red carpet gowns but for her riding boots and everyday jeans.”

Distinctive Interiors' portfolio reflects an approach centered on customized design, working with hundreds of manufacturers, custom craftsmen and tradespeople, and sourcing pieces from Europe (DistinctiveInteriors). In a home being designed for a high-profile client, that distinction becomes especially important. The objective isn't to create a showroom. It's to create a place where the homeowners can relax, entertain, display meaningful possessions, and simply live.

“We don't just buy or procure; we curate. I looked for a good five or six years for an antique grandfather clock for the Bradshaws. When I finally found one, I excitedly sent Tammy a video to ask if I could purchase it, since I had found the perfect clock from an antiques dealer, Peace & Plenty in Fairfax, VA (https://www.peaceandplentyantiques.com/). It was in the green/teal color the home was designed around. Sometimes it takes years, but you search & search to find just the right piece.”

The extensive design process includes making sure the right accessories fit. Every detail must adhere to the home’s overall aesthetic and character in one way or another. Nolan explains the process as working around the client’s personal collections and items.

“For the Bradshaws, it was an incredible collection of artwork based on Native American culture as well as the antique trestle dining table Tammy found at a local antique shop. It’s important to stay on track with the client’s main focus, which can vary by project, since each home and client is different. The client should feel honored, respected, and correctly represented by their home."

“For the Bradshaws, their focus is family, so we decorated their home with lots of family photos, even designing a family photo wall. Terry still has the same coffee pot his grandmother made. He proudly showed us and told us the story. We made sure everything was planned and in place for when family visited them. We made sure family heirloom mementos were displayed safely, and family photos were in prominent locations,” Nolan explains.

One of the most interesting challenges of new construction is creating a sense of history. A brand-new home has no accumulated memories yet. Interior design can build that sense of character through artwork, furnishings, textures, collected objects, and details that connect the home to its inhabitants. For the Bradshaws, incorporating personal pieces helped ensure the Texas home didn't feel new; it felt like theirs from the moment they moved in.

A project of this scale requires close coordination between the homeowners, interior designers, architects, builders, craftsmen, vendors, and installation teams. For Distinctive Interiors, the Bradshaw project involved working alongside Shadden Custom Homes during construction and ultimately bringing together the furnishings, artwork, and accessories during installation (LinkedIn).

The final installation is the moment when years of decisions suddenly become tangible. Furniture arrives. Artwork is placed. Accessories are styled. The carefully considered finishes and architectural details finally come together into a cohesive home.

“The final installation is a lot of work. Items came from all over, including outside the country. We coordinated deliveries so everything arrived within the same week. We also had hand-carved, custom furnishings coming from Mexico, and we tracked their progress. We shipped most items to our Dallas warehouse and delivered them, a 4-5-hour round trip. It was exhausting, but it’s always exhilarating to see your vision come to life.”

Interior design is such an interesting job. The work you spend years doing is lived in every day by the people you work for. You build more than a home; you build a life. Walking into a completed home after years of work as a designer leaves a bittersweet feeling, as Nolan describes.

“It’s a huge sense of accomplishment and happiness, but there's always a trickle of sadness, since you won't be working every day with that client or the builder/general contracting team. It’s sad to work so closely with a client for a few years, and then have the project end. You truly miss that daily interaction.” The Distinctive Interiors owner explains. “Our clients really do become our friends, and so you always hope for a future or side project with them.”

Perhaps the most meaningful part of the Bradshaws' Texas project is its idea: a forever home. Distinctive Interiors describes the project as the Bradshaws' new forever home, completed in February 2026 (DistinctiveInteriors). That designation changes the way a designer approaches the work. Instead of designing around a passing trend, the focus can shift to longevity, creating interiors that feel beautiful today while remaining appropriate and personal years from now. Designing a forever home for a family is a meaningful part of interior design, as it shapes many choices throughout the process.

“Since the Bradshaws live on a working horse ranch, with (10) dogs and other pets, we made sure everything was durable and built to last,” Nolan says. “Every item selected was built to last and could stand up to the wear of their locale. No future moves are planned, so we designed every facet of the home to accommodate their lifestyle, including a hidden bourbon room for Terry's Bradshaw Bourbon line, Terry's workout gym in the garage building, and the dogs' wash station and running area. Everything the Bradshaws need was planned out and supplied.”

Working with high-profile homeowners may come with unique logistical considerations, but at its heart, the design process remains remarkably human. Every homeowner wants a space that feels like them, every family has objects that tell their story, and every great home needs to balance beauty with the practical realities of everyday life. For Distinctive Interiors, the Bradshaw Texas project represents years of collaboration, creativity, and craftsmanship. It also exemplifies Distinctive Interiors' approach to luxury residential design: start with the client, understand how they live, and create a home that feels unmistakably their own.

“I always say that I want my clients to smile every time they walk into their home.” Nolan heartfully explains. “We want to provide not only a beautiful environment but also one that accommodates every current and future need, with the most important aspect of all: comfort. I want every single piece we provide to be insanely comfortable. If something is

beautiful but not comfortable, then we have not fulfilled our obligation to the client.”

The finished Texas residence may be a remarkable custom home, but its most important design elements aren't necessarily the ones that photograph best. They're the pieces that mean something. The spaces that make entertaining easier. The rooms that feel comfortable after a long day. The artwork and memorabilia that bring back memories. And the countless small decisions that transform a house into a home. For Distinctive Interiors, that's the real privilege of designing a celebrity home: creating a highly personal space for someone whose life is anything but ordinary.
