Working in the Interior Design Industry…..we designers are always on the forefront of what is coming up next and what the latest trends will be. HighPoint Market in late October 2025 will be showcasing the upcoming Furniture trends but my summer research is pointing in this direction…..

#1) VINTAGE, ONE-OF-A-KIND PIECES

It appears that the shift is moving toward for items with personality-driven design, meaning something with Character, History, Patina and a Story. People want something “created” not mass produced. Pinterest notes that “handpainted furniture” searches have surged 135%. Consumers are actively searching for pieces that have a story or have a story for themselves (We picked this up at a flea market in Paris……a sidewalk artist created this piece on the spot for us)… Consumers want to curate and collect rather than just purchase something with a online click from IKEA or Amazon.

#2) MURALS

Murals have made a reoccurrence….a big resurgence has been in Wallcovering Mural panels where the wall looks like an actual piece of artwork. Available in every style and color from traditional to modern; coastal to asian…the looks and styles are neverending. We are seeing Murals everywhere with wallpaper books now dedicated solely to Murals. They can be installed via wallpaper panels or rolls, trimmed out with architectural picture framing in sections or pieces or even painted by an artist.

#3) RICH COLOR TONES

We are seeing a lot of upholstery furniture pieces in deep, rich tones. Living room sofas or club chairs are being seen in rich chocolates, bright blues or brazen golds. Even Kohler has started creating their plumbing Faucets, Toilets, etc. in deep colors like emerald green.

#4) TEXTURE ON WALL

We are seeing alot of texture on the walls. No one wants a plain, white hospital-looking wall…people want to decorate and add pattern, textures and color on their interior walls. It’s not just “paper” anymore, wallcoverings come in everything from wood veneers (in intricate patterns), to cork, to metallics, to natural grasses, etc.…. I was on vacation in Paris in early June and just happened to drive by the ARTE Showroom (a designer is always working - LOL) - I had the driver stop as the Mulberry Bark paper I had been eyeing for a prominent project was showcased in the front display window. It just reinforced, we were on point with that design and continue to design with that particular paper for this client.

Of course, most of us cannot constantly redecorate our homes with the latest trends; but adding some rich, color tone velvet accent pillows on for your sofa or finding that hand-painted nightstand table at the flea market or adding a bit of wallpaper to your powder bathroom or bedroom headboard wall can add just a touch of the latest trends.
