Lily Pulitzer created a fashion craze back in the 1960’s in Florida’s Palm Beach. That fashion style is still going strong today and actually has spilled over into the interior design world. Being located in Sarasota, Florida.... we love the Palm Beach style.
Here are some easy ways to incorporate that style / look into your home.
COLOR
Choose tropical colors such as turquoise, lime green, lemon yellow, tangerine orange, bold pink, etc. Bring colors into your design through wallpaper, paint, furniture, rug or upholstery colors.
CHINOISERIE
Bring a touch of that Chinoiserie Style (basically a European interpretation of Chinese style). Think lacquered furniture (in white or a color such as green or blue), hand-painted details, Foo dogs, dragons, floral motifs & birds. We also love furniture with ming-style chow legs and fretwork.
NATURAL MATERIALS
Incorporate furniture made with natural rattan, caning and bamboo. Adding woven textures and natural woods has always been synonymous with the Palm Beach style.
WALLPAPER
The use of wallpaper is a great and easy way to add that Palm Beach Style. Choose patterns with lattice or trellis motifs, Greek Key, animal prints, chinoiserie style or colored natural grasscloth.
MUST HAVE MOTIFS
Accessorize with quintessential motifs like palm fronds (our favorite), flamingos, pineapples, sea shells, conch shells to add that touch of whimsy to your space. We also like Foo Dogs or ginger jars in bright colors.
INCORPORATE VINTAGE & ANTIQUE ITEMS
Palm Beach style is a “well-collected” and curated style. Mix vintage pieces with modern furnishings. Blue & White china is a nice touch, a gilded accessory or a porcelain pagoda. Another favorite is Chippendale style chair or mirror.
Adding a few of these simple elements can really turn your room into a Palm Beach paradise!
