Why decorate with Original Art ?

I have many clients that shy away from original artwork, they believe only the wealthy can afford original art. That is untrue and original art is everywhere today and sold at every price point. With watercolors, acrylics, oils, collages, sculptures, mobiles.....there is just so many different kinds of art and so much to discover.
Why, should you decorate your home with original art pieces? Isn't it best to have a piece that is completely original and one-of-a-kind? Everything today is mass-produced. With one click you can order anything from across the world from Wayfair or Amazon. But with art, why not support an artist and display a piece that only you own? A truly unique and special piece that only you have. Now don't get me wrong, we purchase art from a variety of sources (including mass produced) and that has it's place. But if you can - you should choose a piece that speaks to you, that reflects your personality or expresses an idea or style that you embrace.
With platforms like Etsy, you can browse and purchase art from anyone across the globe at any price point. If you are on a budget, seek out your local art schools and support a budding painter or scour your area's resale or antique shops and find a treasure. Or visit your area's Art Fairs & events and see what you can discover.
If you have the means, take a day and visit the various art galleries or co-ops in your town/city and discover the hidden gems that you may have missed. In big cities, there is always a sidewalk artist creating and selling their wares (I picked up a fabulous painting on the streets of New Orleans one fall)....
Selecting, curating and collecting art is a fun, interesting passion and a wonderful weekend hobby.
Happy art hunting !
